The Responsibilities of Board of Commissioners

In terms of Section 16(1) of the Act, the Board of Commissioners are responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Act, in addition to any other functions conferred on the Commission.

The role and responsibility of the Board of Commissioners are to ensure that it acts as the focal point for, and custodian of, corporate governance by managing its relationship with management and other stakeholders of the Namibian Competition Commission, along sound corporate governance principles, including ethics.

Dr. Sakeus Akweenda (Commissioner)

Dr. Sakeus Akweenda (Commissioner)

Dr. Sakeus Akweenda is a Commissioner, serving on the Board of Commissioners as Chairperson.

He holds a PhD: Law (London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London); an LL.M (University College London, University of London); and an LL.B (London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London).

Dr. Akweenda is an Advocate/Legal Practitioner of the High Court and Supreme Court of Namibia. He is also a Court Accredited Mediator.

Ms Lesenda Grace Mohamed (Commissioner)

Ms Lesenda Grace Mohamed (Commissioner)

Ms Lesenda Grace Mohamed is a Commissioner serving on the Board of Commissioners. She is also a member of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee as well as a member of the Board Technical Committee .

She holds a degree in Master of Business Administration (GIBS/University of Pretoria, South Africa);  a M.Com in Economics (University of Witwatersrand, South Africa); an Honours degree (University of Cape Town, South Africa); and a B.Com (University of Namibia).

Ms Mohamed is the General Manager: Insurance at Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA)


 

Mr. Gideon Martin Luther Shilongo (Commissioner)

Mr. Gideon Martin Luther Shilongo (Commissioner)

Mr. Gideon Martin Luther Shilongo is a Commissioner, serving on the Board of Commissioners. He is also a member and the Chairperson of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee.

He completed a Senior Management Programme (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa); a Masters in Business Administration (Cyprus Institute of Marketing, Cyprus); and an Advance Diploma in Business Administration (Association of Business Executives, United Kingdom).

Mr. Shilongo is the Group Director for O&L Group Corporate Relations.

Ms Malverene Theron (Commissioner)

Ms Malverene Theron (Commissioner)

Ms Malverene Theron is a Commissioner, serving on the Board of Commissioners. She is also the Chairperson of the Human Resources Committee and a member of the Board Technical Committee.

She holds an LL.B (Uinversity of Cape Town, South Africa); a Certificate in Compliance & Corporate Governance (University of Cape Town, South Africa);  and a Certificate in Insurance Supervision (University of Cape Town, South Africa).

Ms Theron is an admitted Legal Practitioner and a Procurement Manager at  DeBeers Marine Namibia, and is also the Managing Member of the Namibia Preferential Procurement Council (NPPC).

Dr. Teresia Kaulihowa (Commissioner)

Dr. Teresia Kaulihowa (Commissioner)

Dr. Teresia Kaulihowa is a Commissioner, serving on the Board of Commissioners. She is also the Chairperson of the Board Technical Committee and a member of the Human Resources Committee.

She completed a PhD: Development Finance/Economics (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa); holds a Master of Art in Economics (University of Botswana); a Bachelor of Economics (University of Namibia); and a National Diploma in Agricultural Economics (Ogongo Agric College).

Dr. Kaulihowa is a Lecturer in Econometrics at the University of Namibia.
